| If you’ve ever seen a sailplane flying gracefully through the sky you probably wondered "what’s it feel like to do that?". Soaring in a glider is a wonderful sensation - something that is almost too difficult to describe in words. At Mendip Gliding Club you will experience the full majesty of nature in silent flight over one of the most beautiful regions in the country.

Trial Lesson Vouchers
For the cost of only £30, you will be able to experience the sensation of soaring like a bird in one of our two seat training gliders. The cost of the flight includes:
- an introduction to the glider controls and instruments.
- pre-take off checks completed by the pilot
- one winch launch.
- The flight will last for up to about 15 minutes - see Note below.
For the cost of only £75, we will provide you with the same as above but the winch launch will be replaced by a 2000 foot aerotow and a flight of up to 30 minutes - see Note below.
This offer is available on Saturdays and Sundays on an arrive and fly basis. Your name will be added to the days flying list and you will be called when it is your turn.
For the perfect present, for only £75, we offer a three lesson voucher which is valid for twelve months from the date of issue. This voucher can be presented at the club on any Saturday or Sunday in exchange for three winch launches. You can opt to exchange the three winch launches for one aerotow.
What You Will See
The Mendip Hills are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The instructor will help you find your bearings by pointing out local landmarks as you fly around. You will see beneath you the ridge, to which the airfields main landing strip runs approximately parallel. The ridge extends, with a few breaks from Crook Peak near the M5 motorway to beyond the city of Wells.
Perhaps the best known feature of the Mendips, about midway between the north west and south east ends of the range of hills, is Cheddar Gorge. You may have the opportunity to see the Gorge form a spectacular view at 1500 feet! (See left)
The highest point on the Mendips is the television mast near Priddy, which is over 900 feet high, overlooking the city of Wells with it's famous cathedral.
Your will be able to see other local landmarks such as, Cheddar Reservoir, Glastonbury Tor, The Bristol Channel, Chew Valley Lakes and on a clear day, Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station and south Wales.
