Celebrate the Cheltenham Festival with music at Stratford Hotel
08 March 2010
Racing fans can enjoy the craic at a busy Stratford hotel during the Cheltenham Festival.
The Legacy Falcon Hotel is hosting two music nights to mark the opening of the four-day racing festival on Tuesday, March 16 and to celebrate Ladies Day on Thursday, March 18.
Irish folk band Gissane will be performing in the Oak Bar at the hotel in Chapel Street between 8.30pm and midnight. Entrance is free.
Sian Pirone, sales manager at The Legacy Falcon Hotel, said the hotel was already sold out for guests staying overnight before making the 40-minute journey to the hallowed turf at Cheltenham.
"I am sure there will be plenty of tales to tell each night in the Oak Bar in between enjoying the music of Gisanne," she said.
"The Oak Bar is certain to be buzzing as people re-live their day at the Cheltenham Festival which is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar.
"I think numbers were down among hoteliers last year because generally speaking hotels in the Cheltenham area are booked and then there is a ripple effect into towns and cities nearby.
"In 2009, hotels in Cheltenham were still advertising their vacancies but bookings seem to have picked up again this year.
"At the Falcon, our 83 bedrooms are fully booked between March 16 and 19 when the Cheltenham Festival is being held.
"I think it shows there is cautious optimism that the economy is starting to recover and there is a feel-good factor ahead of this year's racing.
"Even if you are not among the 200,000 who are expected to head to Cheltenham this year then we have organised two music nights with a great Irish band and we hope people will come along and enjoy the craic.
"Admission is free and I am sure there will be two evenings where there will be plenty of interesting stories of successes - or otherwise - told in the bar."
