With the excellent support and encouragement from our staff, even the faint of heart can experience the exhilaration of conquering their fears, and go on to try even more daring feats, such as abseiling blindfolded or the ultimate challenge for the totally insane - a face forwards abseil!

Afloat and Ashore Ltd are able to offer short abseils for birthday parties, the young or timid, through to something far more challenging for the gung-ho stag party, although it's not the height, it's actually stepping off the edge that's the hard part.

Target archery is very popular and takes place on flat terrain. The participant shoots a given number of arrows, known as a round, at targets over known distances

Archery is ideal for those who are less athletic and prefer a more passive activity. Who knows, you may be the next Robin Hood or Maid Marion.

It can be delivered as a group session where individuals compete against each other, as a team challenge, or purely for fun, the choice is yours.

Climbing is an activity that can be enjoyed by all. You do not need to be athletic or have any prior climbing skills. We provide all the equipment and the technical expertise.

Our instructors will talk you through the procedure and are there to help you succeed, even for those with no head for heights. All we ask is that you give it a go.

Throughout the session you will learn how to climb and master the techniques of belaying (managing the safety rope for the climber) on beginner friendly crags.

An activity that can be enjoyed by all. You do not need to have any prior skills or be athletic, only a vivid imagination and the ability to think outside the box. All the equipment and technical expertise is provided.

Group initiative problems are fun and thought provoking ways of developing group skills. Many of today's successful companies incorporate outdoor training activities into their own staff development programmes. They are equally useful for youth groups looking to get together and improve individual awareness in a team setting.

Our raft building sessions allow you to design and build a raft from the equipment provided. An excellent way of developing planning, teamwork, communication and co-operation. An ideal activity for part of a corporate day or team challenge.

Depending on your skills it could prove to be a very wet session, so please bring a complete change of clothes, spare shoes and a towel.

Walk up the gorge of a moorland or mountain stream, scramble up waterfalls, and wade or swim through plunge pools.

The longer gorge walks of the Lake District or Wales are very atmospheric and lend themselves to part of a residential package.

The wetter the better!
